To maintain English skills 7

Anyway, let's get started!!

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.
In today's job market it is far more important to have practical skills than theoretical knowledge. In the future, job applicants may not need any formal qualifications.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Write at least 250 words.

Current job market requires candidates with more paractical skills rather than qualificaions and thus, the qualifications will be no longer needed in the future. In my opinion, practical skills are more important but qualification will never be needless.

During job hunting, many candidates notice that most of employers are seeking a candidate with at least a certain period of working experience in a similar position. It is needless to say that it is because they can save time and money spending on a new employee for training. Even university graduates are required working experience and therefore they are actively seeking internship opportunities while studying. Only minority of employers accept those who have no practical experience, believing that candidates are worth enough to spend time and money for training. Likewise, they accept because a job position may be unique or differentiated to other jobs so that less number of candidates is willing to apply for the position. However, it does not mean that qualifications are not needed. All job seekers, at first, do not have any practical experience. They are hired because they have knowledge or skills acquired during school education. For example, in finance or accounting industry, one of degrees or qualifications; namely, finance, accounting, economics and business, is required for applicants. Besides, it is statistically proved that employees working in a management position are likely to have a certain degree of qualification and vice versa. Thus, if applying for a management position in any department, it most likely requires both experience and qualifications.

In conclusion, practical skills are highly regarded in recent job market but it does not mean that qualifications are not demanded. Candidates will be successful if he or she does have both experience and qualifications and that is what most employers are looking for. (298 words)

Anyway, let's get started!!

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.
Present a written argument or case to an educated reader with no specialist knowledge of the following topic.
In some countries an increasing number of people are suffering from health problems as a result of eating too much fast food. It is therefore necessary for governments to impose a higher tax on this kind of food.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?
You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.
You should write at least 250 words.
A significant number of people have health issues because of their favourite fast food. Thus, governments need to impose a higher tax on a particular type of food. I am in favour of the fast food or sugar tax, believing that it will save a huge amount of health care costs.

In some western countries, a substantial number of people have health issues such as obese, heart disease and high blood pressure. One of factors causing the health problem is their eating habit. Many of these obese patients like eating fast food and drinking sugary drinks. In fact, the young in Australia, particularly aged between 10 and 20 are reported that their daily sugar intake exceeds WHO recommendations.

Countries with obese problems have already imposed a higher tax on this type of food and shown positive effects. For example in Mexico, the government imposed a sugar tax in 2014 and later the sales of sugary drinks dropped substantially. Besides, Britain is following this trend and imposing a higher tax in 2018. Many advocates recommend to governments saying that imposing a higher tax in this type of food is effective and it will save billions of dollars for health care costs for the patients.

To sum up, many people have health issues due to their eating habits, addicting to fast food and sugary drinks. Governments should impose a higher tax on fast food and sugary drinks as this method has been proved as very effective in some countries. This will bring positive consequences on governments and consumers, saving health care costs and making them much healthier.

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.
Present a written argument or case to an educated reader with no specialist knowledge of the following topic.
Many childhood diseases can now be prevented through the use of vaccines.
Should parents be made by law to immunise their children against common diseases or should individuals have the right to choose not to immunise their children?
You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.
You should write at least 250 words.

The immunisation of children will generally reduce the risk of catching various types of diseases but it does not mean that parents should be required by law to use vaccines for their children.
The use of vaccines is effective for majority of children or even adults. However, we should consider some minorities are not able to use vaccines due to their health conditions. For example, some babies born prematurely or those born with heart, lung and kidney diseases should not be taken any vaccines. Therefore, it is not reasonable to require parents by law to use vaccines.
Some countries provide vaccines to children for free. In such case, there is no one left behind even if they are in serious financial difficulties. On the other hand, vaccinations may not be free or even expensive in other nations. If vaccinations are required by law, there will be a huge financial burden on many parents.
Making the law to restrict parents to immune children is non sense as we originally have our own immune system. Especially in most developed nations, there is not much risk of exposing to a serious infection such as ebola or zika viruses.
To conclude, the use of vaccines is generally effective for majority and majority of us may be in favour of use of vaccines for children. It reduces a risk of exposing to a serious disease and helps thousands of lives in many countries. In spite of that, some children should not be allowed to use vaccines because of their health conditions. Meanwhile, it is uncertain whether they are provided vaccines for free and if it has costs it is necessary to consider the minority who cannot afford to pay for the vaccines.

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.
Write about the following topic:
Modern communications mean that it’s no longer necessary to write letters.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Write at least 250 words.
Source: Ielts-exam.net

As technological advance has eased our way of communication traditional way of communication is less and less demanded by majority of public. I strongly agree with this statement.

In the past fifty years, technology has developed significantly and it diversified way of communication. Dating back to 1980s a major tool for communication was a letter and a telephone. After the old era, we have obtained a mobile phone, email and SNS (Social Networking Service). While the old tools were supported for many years before the technological advance, it had lots of cons such as length of time and inconvenience. Modern communication tools solved all these disadvantages that the old tools had. We no longer need to wait for receiving a response for your inquiry and it is much more convenient. Therefore, in many cases people do not write a letter because they save time and do more tasks. In fact, in most business situations, email is more acceptable than writing a letter. Only in some situations a letter is more regarded for example when signing on contract or in other legal matters. We also still write a letter in a special occasion such as invitation for wedding or important meetings. But in general it is no longer required to write a letter.

In conclusion, I strongly agree that due to a diversification of way of communication, majority no longer needs to write letters. Instead, we have more convenient tools including email, a mobile phone and SNS. Although there is a special occasion that we may write a letter but currently the modern communication tools are more widely used.
